  • Im an electronics engineer and Ive been trying to tell people exactly this for so long. Also, most of us charge overnight so why try to make it charge so fast, don`t peak the battery to 4.2v per cell until right before its about to be used, keep it in what`s known as the storage charge level, storage charge is important for lipos that aren't being used often. I agree with you on every word you said, you also gained a new sub for it too as its rare to find such great advice from youtube. Must add though, a generally accepted safe charge current is generally 1C, so the capacity of the battery lets say 2000mAh would be charged at 2000ma or 2A to be optimal, so if you have a higher capacity battery you could charge it faster, like a 5000mAh battery is usually charged at 5A, this doesnt apply to all batteries and you should check the datasheet for model to be sure, but its a good rule of thumb. Generally manufacturers of batteries like LGChem do make notes on the datasheets of the cells explaining the reduction in recharge cycles by using "fast charge" currents instead of their recommended basic charge levels. Just for clarity, i have some Lipos that are recommended to be charged at 1/10th of C, they are 3500mAh batteries and therefore need 350ma current in the CC stage to be given maximum battery charge cycles, their max charge current was given at 1C, so after designing a BMS to manage the charge rate at 350ma we were over 1000 test cycles before we considered the battery to be worn, when we increased the charge levels to 2A, that number dropped to 200 cycles. The load used to discharge was an electronic load and was programmed for cut off voltages etc to achieve consistency. Phone batteries are obviously designed to take a higher charge current, but as you said theres a big cost to it if its done right, but ultimately this is something that Apple has got right, slower charging is better for everyone and realistically most people charge overnight and have a phone that lasts all day, so fast charging is largely a waste of time. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

  • Everyone I know that uses fast or ultra charging has their battery life at 75%-80% and the phones barely a half a year old. I try telling them and no one believes me. I’m perfectly content with my apple 20 watt, even the 18watt. I leave work with 100%. Come home 10-12 hours later (with constant content listening) 45-55%. I put my phone on the charger and it’s done in a 30-40 minutes. Just got rid of my iPhone 11 Pro and it had 98% battery life. I use my phone literally all day long at work. I swing hammers all day and listen to podcasts or MRworlds videos ...hell sometimes even listen to movies or tv shows.

  • I'd rather have a phone that lasts exactly 12 hrs with occasional use that charges up to 80% by 20-30 minutes, and use a power bank wheneber I don't have power available, like camping in the forest etc. Than a battery that lasts 24 hrs, but takes three hours to charge.

  • I have found that my phone doesn’t seem to charge properly with the fast charger that it comes with it always starts to overheat at times and when it says fully charged and i turn it on but it drops down to about 80% just by turning it on it’s pretty obvious that your phones battery will get damaged when its using a fast charger as 1 its not fully charging your phone as it isn’t actually fully charged if you charge it to 100% then turn it on it drops by 15% to 20% as that’s the actual % that its charged to i have a samsung phone that has a super fast charger and another phone that has slow charging and when i turn them in at the exact time the samsung drops by 15% and my other one drops by only 2%

    Craig WoodgateCraig Woodgate7 दिवसांपूर्वी
  • I actually see this a lot. I work in a phone repair shop and we use a tester with a led panel that goes in-between the power brick and the cable. It displays the amount of power going through. And I've seen phones accept about 1amp of energy up until the phone battery is at 80%. Then the reader will be knocked down to .5-.6 amps. Which charges the rest of the phone slower

  • Is Apple sure their users were all the while alright with their slow 5W charging? I dont think so. Ive seen people anxious when their iPhone batt is below 10% and they need to go out in 15mins. Ive been on Android phones with 15W, 22.5W and 25W charging, their batteries seem to outlast my colleagues' iPhones whom suffered dead battery in as early as their 2nd year of use.

    Mikkel LundMikkel Lund9 दिवसांपूर्वी
  • Why the hell aren't they just making phones with 2 batteries in the box with some sort of clip system so you can have one in the charger and one in the phone and when it's empty just clip the full one in the phone. Of course the phone should have also an internal cmos like battery to keep it on during battery switch.

  • Technology is evolving too fast. All batteries will deteriorate and using a fast charger, doesn't destroy the SOT or standby time, in an exaggerated manner. It will simply deteriorate over several yrs, just like anything else. Several of my friends and co-workers had to replace the iPhone batteries after 2-3yrs and those things take an eternity to charge. My Note 9 still has better SOT and standby time than my current Note 20 Ultra and I've been fast charging my Note 9, almost every night, for over 2yrs, with no significant deterioration, at all. These newer devices are that much more evolved.

  • I have been trying to tell people that for years. Any battery has a predetermined number of charge cycles. Charging faster than recommended will lower number of full capacity charge cycles you get. Charging slower (time) will obviously take longer but it will increase the overall life of the battery. Bottom line is: it all comes down to consumer choice. Excellent presentation.
